Mormons lose even more members in Germany

In 2020, the Mormon administration has not published official membership figures for Germany or Europe.
One thing is certain, however, that the Mormons, whether Corona or not, have a massive growth problem in Europe.
After the figures for 2021 have been published, we can give a new analysis of the numbers and our work.

Since 2017 -1.5% fewer members in Germany
By now, every member in Germany should be aware that the Church is losing members.
This is due to two reasons in particular:
1. Members are disproportionately old and simply die faster than new member children are born. Yes, children are already counted as members from the time of child blessing.
2. Since we have been offering our support, more and more people are finding the courage to really leave the church, because they no longer have to fear being summoned before some church court or being proselytised and lectured by their bishop.
The attitude of members towards leaving the church has also changed. What used to be considered embarrassing and ostracised - naturally because of the Mormon character - is now often the opposite. People are proud of their decision because it means making a complete paradigm shift. This is a skill that is in demand by modern employers, for example. Namely, to question the existing and to look for optimal and new solutions without fear of a complete change.
More members, but fewer congregations in Europe. How does that fit together?
In Europe as a whole, the Mormons are still recording minimal growth in membership. There have been 6,269 in the last 3 years. A considerable number, considering that an average congregation probably has between 80 and 150 members, so we are talking about 41 to 78 full new congregations with members have been added. But where are the people? They certainly don't seem to be arriving in the congregations. Because in the same time the Mormons have closed 32 (net) congregations in Europe.
But this should also be familiar to former missionaries in the European area.
New members are mainly found in the socially weak classes. Often they hardly speak the local language and have few social contacts. The missionaries are well received as "friends" and people like to be talked into coming to church and meeting other new "friends". After that, they just get baptised and as soon as the missionaries are gone, the new member is no longer seen. I have experienced this myself with a good 80% of the converts.
Even though I personally don't put so much time and energy into the work any more, I am still happy about this development and of course proud of the fact that our work is making a not inconsiderable contribution to the decline in Mormon membership in Germany.
