Frequently Asked Questions

Is personal information shared?

Your personal data will only be used to process your withdrawal and will not be saved by us.
In order for the church to be able to correctly allocate and fulfill your resignation request, you must fill out as much data as possible in the form.

How long does the exit take?

The church has 30 days from sending your resignation letter/ GDPR request to fulfill and confirm it.

If you have not received a successful response after this time, please contact us so that we can jointly file a complaint with the responsible data protection authority.

Will my parents/family know about my resignation?

If it is important that no one should know about your resignation, please do not hesitate to contact us to clarify any questions.

I have already submitted a request to my local church leadership. Can I still submit a GDPR request?

Yes. This is even advisable, since inquiries about local church leaders are often delayed for years or regular efforts are made to contact you and get you back.

An official GDPR request is mandatory for the church and must be processed within 30 days.

What about Quitmormon?

Currently, anyone seeking to exit through Quitmormon.com requires their documentation to be certified by a notary public. Which makes the Quitmormon process slower, more complex, and possibly even costly.

In contrast, a GDPR application like the one we provide does not require a lawyer, notary or fees. The request is legally binding for the church and it has 30 days to respond.

what about my kids

If the child was blessed as an infant (blessing of children), then the child's name is recorded in the church.

Once the child is baptized at age 8, they become full members. If the child is not baptized, then the church should actually delete the child's data. However, she doesn't. Instead, the church tries to keep contacting these children, even if their parents are no longer members.

For underage children, the church requires the consent of the legal guardians for data processing.

With the GDPR coming into effect in May 2018, the Church would have had to ask every person on its membership list for permission to process data. Also from inactive members. The church has failed to comply and is therefore illegally storing personal information from thousands of inactive children and adults.

ForChildren under 12 years oldand for those who are legally incapacitated, the legal representatives who are responsible for personal care can declare their withdrawal from the church on their behalf.

AtChildren between 12 and 14 yearsthe resignation cannot be declared against their will and the child can only consent to the resignation itself and must therefore declare the resignation together with its legal representatives (sole custody may have to be proven).

From the age of 14Minors can declare their withdrawal themselves, even against the will of their legal representatives. For children under the age of 14, please contact us and we will send you the appropriate template.

Why is the form in German?

The Church has only one global email address for all privacy requests. The request is then automatically forwarded to the responsible department in Germany. This then also answers the letter in German.
